The Idea Factory đź’ˇ
Don’t take notes. Capture ideas.
Each “note” you take should be looked at as a small idea, an atomic thought.
When you make this mental shift — your “notes” evolve massively — from a mere pile of notes to a network of your thoughts and ideas.
You begin to create your very own “idea factory”.
(If you create content of any sort, this becomes invaluable for you later on)
I use this concept for any meaningful content I consume:
- Like a physical book I’m reading
- A video or movie I’m watching
- An article, ebook or
- A podcast or audiobook
I get the most value from these notes when I process them in a “Slip-Box” — my own DIGITAL IDEA FACTORY.
Here I write (in my own words) what I think about regarding the source material.
I DON’T just copy word for word from any other source — that’s the lazy “note taking method”.
Instead, I add context to why it’s important to me — important enough for me to save.
If it’s an inspiring quote, I’ll include what the quote means to me in my own words.
This way I’m capturing MY inspired thoughts, not just capturing someone else’s ideas.
This process becomes exponentially more powerful later on when it’s time to create…
