The Truth About Your Ideas
“The truth is, ideas are cheap. They come up all the time and accumulate into big piles.” — Ryan Singer
Ideas come a dime a dozen.
They aren’t as valuable as most would think (even the “good ones”).
What problem do they solve?
How achievable are they?
What resources are acquired?
Who is going to buy this idea?
Is the idea really worth pursuing?
It’s important to have a process of vetting and filtering out the exciting, but unproductive ideas from the truly valuable ideas.
Over time, this same process will allow you to shape those ideas into much larger impactful pieces of content like books, courses, movies, plays, art, reports, etc.
This process works as a part of my idea factory (slip-box, Zettelkasten, Commonplace book, Personal Knowledge Manager, etc).
It allows me to:
- bring in raw ideas (materials)
- dispose of the wastes,
- process the best ideas (manufacture), and
- ship the products that manifest from those ideas (distribution)
How do you handle your ideas?
